A Day in the Life of a Health Blogger

I love watching Day in the Life videos on YouTube and reading blog posts about how people spend their day. In fact, I'm not sure why I've never actually written one myself until now. So here's how I spend a typical day when I'm not working and have no chores to do or errands to run so I can devote the entire day to blogging. Days like this don't come around often, but when they do I make the most of them!

08:00 Wake up and start my morning routine.
You can read my full morning routine in this post but here's the gist: I wake up and head to the kitchen to make some coffee and something small to eat, like a protein bar. Then I'll go and brush my teeth, wash my face and put on my workout clothes. I prefer exercising in the morning (before I can talk myself out of it) so I'll head to the gym for a hour or so before returning home, having a shower and getting dressed. Then I'll make a proper breakfast - usually 2 eggs and half an avocado on wholemeal toast, and sometimes a fruit smoothie too.

10:00 Prepare for the day ahead.
The first thing I'll do is write a to-do list of what I want to accomplish that day. Maybe I have a review to write, certain photos to take or I need to plan some more posts. Then I'll open up my emails and reply to any that require an answer - I prefer to get that out of the way before I get down to blogging. I'll also check Twitter, Instagram and my blog comments and reply to people on those. All this doesn't usually take more than half an hour.

10:30 Start on blog-related stuff.
Now I can get down to business. I'll write a blog post or two and schedule some posts and tweets for the next week or so. I usually have the Food Network on TV in the background while I'm planning and scheduling, but when I'm in the zone writing a blog post I need silence to concentrate. If I get peckish during this time I'll have a couple of snacks like a banana, a Trek bar or some nuts (Marmite cashews are amazing) and green tea - I'm obsessed with green tea.

12:30 Lunchtime.
Around half past 12 I'll stop blogging and go in search of food. Lunch is usually something relatively quick to make, such as a sandwich, salad or homemade soup (which really doesn't require much more than blitzing up some vegetables and stock). After I've eaten, I'll go for a walk to get out of the house and get some fresh air as well as some gentle cardio - I hate sitting down all day. As I live in the city, I'll go to the nearest park for a hit of nature and greenery. It's a lot more pleasant than walking around busy, grey streets.

14:00 Back to blogging.
After a nice break, I'm feeling refreshed and ready to get back down to it. I'll finish writing any posts I've started and take some photos. Once I've done that, I might plan some healthy recipes I want to try for the blog and if I have the ingredients on hand I'll give them a test run. I'll probably have another green tea and snack at some point. (Just FYI; I don't only drink green tea - I have a glass of water on the go throughout the day which I'm constantly sipping from).

17:00 Another break and dinner.
At around 5pm my husband will get home from work so I'll stop blogging for a while and spend some time with him. Then at 6pm I'll start on dinner - depending on what I'm making it usually takes around an hour or so to prepare and cook. Dinner - at approximately 7pm - always consists of complex carbs, protein (though not always meat as we've massively cut down) and piles of vegetables. If we have dessert it'll be something like yoghurt and fruit - however, sometimes a girl just needs chocolate so I'll whip up something like my avocado chocolate mousse.

19:30 Anything goes.
We've usually finished eating by about half past 7 so one of us will wash up, then it's time to relax. We'll either watch something on TV together or I'll go on social media to catch up with people and watch some YouTube videos, read a book or call my mum. I might even carry on blogging if I'm full of ideas that day and don't want to stop. I'll more than likely have a third green tea during the evening.

21:00 Start my night time routine.
Now it's time to start preparing for bed, and for tomorrow. First I'll wash up any cups or bowls that might have accumulated throughout the evening and tidy up any clutter, putting things back in their place - I hate waking up to a mess. Then I'll go and choose my outfit for the next day and lay it out ready. I also pack my handbag with anything I'm going to need the next day, and quickly check my diary to make sure I haven't forgotten any appointments. To wind down I'll usually have a hot bath and then read a book until I'm tired.

23:00 Bedtime.
I aim to be in bed by 11pm every night. This doesn't always happen but it's not often that I stay up past midnight - I like to have at least eight hours' sleep and sometimes it takes me a while to fall asleep. I'll set my alarm, put my phone on silent and plug it in to charge overnight then get in bed.
