Health Blogger Spotlight: Elle Linton, 'Keep it SimpElle'

It's been a while since I've done a Health Blogger Spotlight post - but believe me, it was worth the wait. My interviewee today is the amazing Elle Linton from Keep it SimpElle. Elle is a fitness professional, blogger and all-round inspirational lady, so let's get to know her a little better...

Hi Elle! Please tell us a little about yourself.
So, I'm not even sure where to start! I'm a 32 year old Fitness Professional and Blogger living in Essex (but technically on the outskirts of London). I work freelance as a Studio Instructor, Personal Trainer and Content Creator as well as currently undertaking an internship in Marketing & PR. For the past 18 months I've been keeping myself especially busy working on a business plan for a small events company I created - Borrow My Blender - with support from The Princes Trust which just officially launched in February!

Why did you start your blog and what can visitors expect to read there?

I started my blog back in 2012; for me it was a way to share my enthusiasm for everything that was going on surrounding the London 2012 Olympics. Somehow I never ended up playing a role in the Olympics themselves as a volunteer (I mean, it could still happen as I'm waiting to hear back from my interview! Admin error?! Lol) but I was involved with a lot of legacy projects at the time working with Nike as a Nike Training Club Trainer. I was up to so much stuff that I needed somewhere to share it and the blog was also a great way to connect with my classes outside of the time we spent training together.
These days I cover topics including running, swimming, cycling (and of course triathlon), London based classes and events, and then my one true passion...food...eating food. I also share my own sweaty endeavours with a little glimpse into life as a fitness professional.
What do you enjoy most about running a fitness blog?
I absolutely love the community that I've become a part of and the people I've met along the way. Being able to reach a wider audience through my blog also means that I'm able to build communities for projects such as my last race - the London Winter Run - for which I created a Winter Run Club in the months leading up to the race.
Running a blog also allows me to keep up with all the latest happenings in the health and fitness world which is crucial as I'm then able to share this with those I train and train with. I'd love to think as myself as a maven - someone who is a trusted expert seeking to pass on knowledge to those around me.
If you could give people only one piece of health advice, what would it be?
As hard as it is to actually do, I'd say try to cut through the "noise". There's so much information out there that it can get very confusing. Take the time to learn about your body - what works for you when it comes to food and exercise. Then aim to keep a good balance of everything! Easier said than done sometimes?!
And what's the most ridiculous piece of health/diet advice you've ever heard?
To be honest, I keep myself surrounded by authentic people and with that comes a lot of sensible information and advice so I rarely am exposed to ridiculous stuff. I get approached a lot to promote weight loss pills and potions to which I always politely decline; as much as I understand there are people who would like to lose weight I kinda feel like the focus should be on eating to nourish your body and moving to improve your health then weight loss will come as an aside to better health, more energy, sleeping well and feeling great mentally and physically...
Now a quickfire round! Choose one...
Fruit or vegetables? FRUIT
Home workout or fitness class? CLASS
Spring or autumn? SPRING
Sweet or savoury? SAVOURY
Home or abroad? ABROAD

Finally, what are your plans for the future? Do you have any specific goals for your life or your blog?
Good question! I have plenty of goals to work towards...specifically, I want to start my masters in autumn 2017 (in Management with Business Innovation). Currently, I'm building my weekly teaching schedule but I'm very particular about where I work and what I teach so it takes longer than if I took any and every opportunity that came along. As for the blog, there are no steadfast rules out there so it's a continual learning process but I would like to continue focusing on creating quality content, building community and sharing knowledge.
